The Tour de France in York 2014

City of York Council has welcomed the unveiling of the official route of stage 2 of the 2014 Le Grand Depart that will run from York to Sheffield. The City of York Council is now planning England's largest urban festival of 2014 in the days running up to the event.

The second stage of Le Grand Depart will roll out from York Racecourse and then take to York’s historic streets. The peloton will ride along some of York’s best known streets and pass landmarks such as The York Minister before the racing starts in earnest when the riders reach the edge of the city. Spectator Hubs

York has four spectator hubs where you can see all the action on big screens. These are at York Racecourse (advance ticket only), Rowntree Park, York Designer Outlet and Huntington Stadium. The spectator hubs are a great place to experience the Tour de France live as well as a whole host of entertainment and shopping available. All Spectator Hubs open at 8am and are free entry (note York Racecourse is advance ticket only).

Where to Stay

York is the ideal place to stay to experience the Tour de France 2014. The city is gearing up for England's largest urban festival of 2014 with an official campsite organised by City of York Council.

If camping's not your thing, don't worry! York has a large number of hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfasts and self-catering accommodation. Availability is expected to be limited so book your accommodation on the official Visit York website today by clicking here.

100 Day Cultural Festival

2014 will be the first time a Cultural Festival will run prior to and alongside the event - a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase to the world the wealth of culture on offer in our fine county.

The Festival itself will run from 27 March - 6 July 2014, the start day being the 100 day milestone until the Tour arrives in Yorkshire. The Festival gives us an opportunity to:

  • Create a global showcase for the best of Yorkshire's artistic talent
  • Push boundaries and raise Yorkshire's creative profile
  • Produce activity that leaves a legacy for artists, participants and audiences
  • Draw communities and artists together to celebrate the Grand Départ in Yorkshire

Across the county and along the route, Yorkshire will welcome the world, with millions experiencing and getting involved in innovative and ambitious world-class work.
